Mum guilt… it's that sneaky little gremlin that shows up at the worst possible time - usually right after you’ve done something completely reasonable, like taking five minutes to scroll Instagram while your toddler watches Bluey. It’s like becoming a mum suddenly comes with this invisible backpack of guilt. You carry it everywhere—through the sleepless nights, the school drop-offs, the dinner you forgot to defrost (again). And no matter how much you’re doing (which is a lot by the way), it never quite feels like enough. Well, I am here to tell you, you are MORE than To View More >>

OMG! I am so excited! The results of the RISE International Photography Awards were announced today and seven of my eight entries received a BRONZE award! This particular photography competition means so much for a number of reasons - not least the calibre of the judging panel. The judges are some of the best and most reknowned photographers in the world, so to receive positive comments from them really means a lot! And so to the images.... To View More >>

OMG - little Archer absolutely rocked his 6 month milestone photosession with me - smiling from start to finish. How utterly adorable is he? I just love the facial expressions at this age! I get a lot of people asking when they should book their newborn photo session, and my answer is always the same: before baby arrives and the sooner the better! The ideal time to confirm your booking is towards the end of the second trimester, when you have had most of your scans and you have a reasonably accurate due date. “But what if my baby arrives early or late?” Don’t worry, it happens all the time! When you book your newborn photo session, the exact date is only provisional. It lets me balance my workload so I can guarantee your baby’s photo session will happen within To View More >>

Amie popped in for her first milestone session before Christmas at the age of just 4 months. It's really amazing to see what a difference a few months makes - no longer a newborn, she was much more interactive and playful. How quickly babies grow, which is why our milestone sessions are so perfect to capture the changes in your baby through her first year. Don't forget to book your session today. To View More >>

Amanda was a little nervous when she arrived for her bump photoshoot, but as the session progressed and we got to know each other, she really relaxed and actually enjoyed the session, so much that she left me a little review on Facebook: "Had our maternity shoot with Jackie. Was nervous but Jackie made me feel really at ease and the pictures we received are lovely. Looking forward to newborn shoot once baby arrives. Thank you Jackie" I think you'll agree, she had nothing to worry about - she looks gorgeous! To View More >>

It always amazes me when I get to meet a brand new little person, especially when I have photographed their mummy and her bump beforehand, so it was lovely to finally meet little Ethan. Even only a few days old, he is already developing his own cheeky personality - he was so determined not to miss anything, but with lots of patience even he had to have a little sleep! In previous posts, I have discussed the safe use of props when photographing newborns. Sometimes, where the baby’s safety cannot otherwise be guaranteed, props must be completely ‘photoshopped’ in afterwards and we use what are known as 'digital props'. This is where the photographer takes a photograph of the prop (or purchases an image) separately from the baby and then the two images are composited together later to create a single photograph. An example of when this technique is often used is for any image where the baby appears suspended To View More >>

As we know, newborns are very delicate, they have poor muscle control and a strong moro reflex (an involuntary response to feeling unsupported) necessitating great care and patience during a photo session. They must be carefully supported at all times and certainly never left on their own. In this series of posts, I will show you how I ensure that babies are appropriately and safely positioned and supported to create some of my more popular images, and perhaps more to the point, I will show you how supporting hands are removed using Photoshop afterwards, i.e. the baby is never left balancing To View More >>
